Crystal Ball

If Worcester ever truly gentrifies, future urban settlers will fall in love with Worcester not for what it has become, but for whatever white trash roots remain. Mark my words.

White trash in the Woo?
How dare you!

Don't say that too loud or the Council will try and drum up a plan to tax those as well. Leaving us with both the most expensive yellow and white trash in the nation.

Me, in Oxford drinking 40's of Private Stock in a dirt driveway around a fire made inside of a tire.

By the way I want to clarify that the only people that should be offended by this post are the gentry themselves (including me) and the only person I call out as being white trash is me.

See this is why I never could have been a journalist. I enjoy my flowery language too much.

Seems whether I am talking about hype or white trash no one really knows what the hell I am talking about.

What I meant by the very few words that made up this blog post is that Worcester will always be Worcester, and there is nothing wrong with that. If Worcester does ever fully gentrify people may be seduced by what will appear to be a nice cultured clean city but these are not the things that make Worcester what it is.

Worcester, for better or worse has a very unique character, after gentrification it will be the remnants of that character that will go beyond the initial seduction and make people fall in love with the city.

Worcester has white trash roots. If it didn't culture would abound here, but it doesn't and that is a fact of life here in Central Mass. Doesn't mean there isn't a market for it, doesn't mean that people here are white trash, all it means is that the region as a whole is fairly hillbilly compared to our metropolitan neighbors.

I guess all I am saying is that there is nothing wrong with that and with the correct marketing spin in the long run you can do what cities like Baltimore and Pittsburgh have done and turn that negative into a positive by celebrating what you are instead of trying so very hard to be something you are not.

Worcester... it is what it is.

geez, I did this for years every winter in Colrain, MA with some real rural folks...I just never thought of this great experience and fun in this manner or thought about Stanley and Ma in this manner....well the fire was in a pit in the yard and the beer was always Budweiser so maybe this is why
